I am crystal clear about my aims, because they are rooted in the promise I made to my son and the injustice I have seen with my own eyes.
- Justice for Matthew — I will not rest until every fact is uncovered about what happened to my son in those final days and nights. This means exposing the truth, however uncomfortable it may be for those in positions of power, and ensuring that the individuals and institutions responsible are held fully accountable. Justice is not just about words on a report — it is about real consequences for failings, and changes that mean no other mother will ever stand where I have stood.
- Systemic Change — The failings in my son’s case were not isolated incidents; they are symptoms of a broken system. I am determined to see a complete overhaul of NHS mental health services, from top to bottom. That means safe staffing levels, proper training, respect for patient dignity, honest and transparent record‑keeping, and care that meets legal and professional standards. I want mental health services that heal rather than harm, that protect rather than endanger.
- Protection for the Vulnerable — I have seen first-hand what happens when safeguarding procedures are ignored and when patient rights are treated as optional. My mission is to ensure that the most vulnerable — those in crisis, those detained under the Mental Health Act, and those without a voice — are treated with compassion, have their legal rights upheld, and are kept safe. This includes strict adherence to safeguarding protocols, accurate medical records, and the ability for families to be meaningfully involved in care without obstruction.
These are not abstract goals — they are the practical steps we must take to stop preventable deaths, to restore public trust in our mental health services, and to honour the memory of every life lost too soon.
I fight for Matthew, but also for every patient, past and present, who has suffered in silence.
